I had also read that sometimes the 'unlock' password is the 32 character PSID printed on the drive. So I thought I might try to revert the PSID like the reply suggested. It doesn't appear to be encrypted or I wouldn't have been able to browse it in another computer! So if it's not encrypted then why does the Lenovo BIOS require a password ( that I never setup) to unlock it?

Apparently the install finished I just can't get past the Lenovo BIOS with this drive installed. On my computer with Win10 I was able to browse the drive and I could see the Program Files, Windows, and Users folders. I was able to take the M.2 out and put it in a Sabrent M.2 to SATA adapter Opens a new window and connect it in my desktop PC. I think it's Windows, thus the need to disable eDrive in the registry.' I do not believe the BIOS is initiating the lock. You may need to do a PSID revert using the Crucial Executive Storage software. While I understand that sometimes you just have to find what works and move on, I really want to use this M.2 drive. I tried this and it had no effect for me.The solution they ended up going with was to use a different brand and format SSD (Kingston 2.5' SATA instead of a Crucial M.2). Once Windows is installed, you can reset your HDD password back to blank to clear it. If you enable your HDD password in the BIOS, eDrive cannot be enabled. ' The issue is with eDrive, Windows is automatically enabling it and it's locking out your drive.

Opens a new windowOne person suggested this: On the Lenovo forums I read a post by someone having the same issue. If I try a blank or an incorrect password it gives me another message that says press Enter to try again or Esc to Shutdown. As soon as I turn it on, the screen goes from black to the image above and I cannot move past this screen. However, with the M.2 installed there is no option to enter the BIOS. When I boot from the original drive it lets me into the BIOS with no password. When I installed Windows it never asked me to enter a password.

As soon as it restarted I get a screen that says UNLOCK CT500MX500SSD4.

I booted from my Windows 10 USB and installed Windows with no problem.

I removed that drive and installed a Crucial MX500 M.2 SSD. I have a brand new Lenovo V330 laptop that came with a 1TB HDD. If you want the TL:DR version here you go:
